Fall Concert Attire
Since our Fall Concert will take place right before Halloween this year, a few students expressed interest in wearing costumes for the concert. The directors sent out a poll and costumes were a HUGE hit.
The new attire for the Fall Concert is as follows:
- Students can opt to wear a Halloween costume as long as it does not impede the student's ability to play. Additionally, students should not wear makeup that will get onto their instrument. Costumes must be school appropriate and fall within the school dress code guidelines.
- Students who do not wish to wear costumes can opt to wear concert attire instead.

Concert Attire Reminder
*All Symphonic and Honors Band Students*
8th Grade Band Students: Concert attire will not change from year to year. However, please remember to try on concert clothing sooner than later and take care of any hemming or resizing needs. Don't forget to make sure shoes fit as well!
All 7th and 8th Grade Band Students: Concert attire requirements and links can be found below.
Ladies: Please purchase directly HERE. Dresses run consistent with normal dress sizes. Order early to make sure the dress fits! The directors recommend trying on the dress when it arrives to give time for any length alterations prior to the first concert. In addition to the dress, girls should also wear black tights or knee-high trouser socks in addition to all-black closed-toe, flat dress shoes.
Gentlemen: Please purchase concert attire from Al's Formal Wear at 3400 Oaklawn Ave. Contact the company by phone to arrange a fitting appointment and let them know that your child is with the Highland Park Middle School Band. HPMS Band students do not need to purchase the entire tux - just the pants, shirt, vest, and bowtie. In addition to the formal wear, boys will also need a pair of all-black dress shoes and black dress socks.
Al's Formwal Wear Phone Number: (214) 520-8897
Concerts are considered formal events, so it is important that students dress in formal clothing. Tennis shoes and shoes with markings on them are considered inappropriate for a formal concert setting. It is important to plan for concert attire shopping early to avoid situations where all-black socks and shoes are challenging to find.
Students will be expected to wear concert attire for the Winter Concert on December 7th. Directors strongly recommend purchasing items asap to guarantee that clothing will be ready in time for the first concert.
Thank You To Our Boosters!
October and November (also fondly known as BANDtober and BANDvember) are some of the busiest times of year for the Raider Band. We would like to say THANK YOU to all of our boosters who donate their time and energy to helping us run smooth events that make our band experience FUN, POSITIVE, and PRODUCTIVE for our band program! Your hard work is very much noticed and appreciated by the HP Raider Band!
Private Lessons Enrollment
Students should be re-enrolled in private lessons at the start of each year to help the directors and lesson staff plan for lesson spaces. If you have not done so, please visit hpraiderband.org/lessons to enroll today.
HOW MUCH ARE PRIVATE LESSONS?
The Highland Park ISD Private Lesson rate for the 2021-2022 school year will increase to $25/half hour or half class lesson starting September 1.
WHO CAN TAKE PRIVATE LESSONS?
All band students are invited and encouraged to take private lessons! Lessons are a vital key to the success of the HP Raider Band program. For more information, visit hpraiderband.org/lessons.
All Honors Band students are required to prepare and audition for this high honor each year. Symphonic Band students enrolled in private lessons are encouraged to do so as well!
More information about the auditions will be communicated with students throughout the semester.
